FaerieCraft with Alicen Geddes-Ward PDF Print E-mail

I first encountered Alicen Geddes-Ward at Witchfest 2006 when she gave a great talk on faeries and in the space of an hour managed to get the entire audience chanting “I do believe in faeries, I do!” I was therefore intrigued to see what we would be doing at the end of a full day workshop and I was not disappointed! ImageThe day kicked off with Alicen providing an introduction to the world of the fey, before we did our first of five visualisations and meditations spread over the course of the day to connect to the faerie realm. I was amazed how quickly everyone tuned into the exercises.

Alicen describes faeriecraft as the merging of faerie faith and wicca but not everyone in the group shared a wiccan background. This didn’t seem to matter in the slightest, since this path is open to anyone who wants to explore it.

I didn’t physically see any faeries flying around us but during the guided meditations I was bombarded with images. Alicen explained that meditation along with dreaming is an effective way of connecting to the spirits of nature. Alicen also spent time explaining the symbolism behind some of the images we had seen and apparently the red apples I kept seeing were very significant to faeries!

Alicen is clearly very knowledgeable about her subject and she manages to impart this knowledge in a lovely laid back manner very much encouraging all the participants to find their own way onto the faerie path.

The workshop was very practical and there was no time to sit and take notes. We were all much too busy going outside to connect with the local faerie king and queen in nearby woodlands, not to mention a great exercise calling on your faerie godmother; they do exist and you don’t need to wait until Cinderella-like drama moments in your life to call on her. Back indoors we created a faerie spiral in the middle of the room to make wishes in; this was my favourite part of the day and something I will definitely recreate again.

The workshop culminated in a faerie celebration ritual which was optional but everyone in the group was keen to get involved, either calling in the faerie powers or reciting poetry, and spinning about to raise energy. It was great fun and everyone was laughing by the end of it; had we conjured up a mischievous elf or were we all just enjoying ourselves? I would say it doesn’t matter either way!

This course is a must for anyone interested in faeries in any form and especially those who are looking for a way to start treading the glittering faerie path….. go get your wings!
