ImageThere's just something about unicorns these days - don't you find? A bright new offering was delivered recently to our review box - The Night of the Unicorn, by Jenny and Tony Smedley. (O Books £7.99). Out of the mist comes a friendly unicorn to take a young girl away from all her problems to a land of perfect delight. Or so it seems. But somehow life just doesn't seem
to work out that way and sure enough soon the young girl - Kat - needs all the help she can get to overcome ...(don't want to spoil the story do we?). With her wise and courageous friends - including a wolf, an owl and of course the unicorn - Kat and her little ghost friend have to find a way out. Life is so often like that isn't it? So this modern fable pulls us in and out of dreams, misunderstandings and illusions in a real running-away adventure. Highly recommended for all kids and unicorn lovers.

Marsha ScarbroughIf you are into healing journeys with Native American sweat lodges, drumming, dance fests, meditations and self development then Medicine Dance (O Books £9.99) by Marsha Scarbrough is just the transformational ticket for you. I was captivated from page 1 and the story rings honest and true as we journey with Beautiful Painted Arrow and Marsha through her ordeal of discovery and transition. The interactions with the people she meets are warm and offer a real insight into what this kind of adventure and experience could be like for us. The connections wit ancestors and shamanic energies prove that these can be vital and relevant in today's modern world too. If Marsha can walk this path then so can we. The Tree That TalkedBeing a bit of a tree-hugger myself I delighted to see The Tree that Talked  by Jenny Smedley (O Books, £10.99). It’s a wonderful spiritual mystery novel which intertwines elements of nature wisdom, tree lore and past lives where a young woman’s life and spirit are literally tangled in the roots of an ancient oak tree. The story starts in 506 AD and stretches through the centuries up to 1987.  Great events that affect the life of the tree are woven through the human history and highlight the interconnectedness of all life and spirit. Reading this book you have a real feeling for the sacredness and potential for deeper understanding that surrounds us. The psychic mystery factor dramatically pulls you along (more of this in the following books) and the additional Appendix of Fascinating Facts is a wee treasure trove.
