| The Witch Hiker, Derek Ogilvie and...Benny Hill?!?! |

Fast forward to Saturday morning and the busy hubbub of the Body and Soul fair, we are fairly early to give our copies of the WHG to Mario and Marcel at the front of house. No Derek Ogilvie yet but he is eagerly anticipated... We wait around for a bit and then nip out for a coffee (I know it bad for you!), when we return his space it set up with books but no Derek, the fabulous Body and Soul organiser Agnes McCluskey introduce us to his manager. His manager says Derek is already giving an interview, knows nothing about us and refuses us our book! Dramarama! Luckily Agnes is having none of it and gets Derek from his interview for us, he happily signs his book for us, poses for some photos and some banter and suggests as we can't wait much longer (baby Witch Hiker calls) that we come back tomorrow...in the morning...before his demonstration in the afternoon..."Don't worry, we'll do this! Even if we have to finish on the phone on Thursday in Ireland. Did I tell you I'm flying off to Ireland tomorrow?". Hmmmm can you hear that Benny Hill music? We check with Da Manager who tells us 11.30-12 for an interview tomorrow. Fast Forward to 11.30am Sunday, no Derek yet, oh dear. I bump into Agnes who tells me he isn't coming in until 12.30, ach well, I treat myself to some Crystal Healing in the interim. 12.30 arrives, yippee he is here, "What is that Mr Manager? He can't see me now?" I go through to see the man himself and get involved in the set up for his mediumship demo. There is a techie guy, Tom, sorting the feed from the camera to the big screen to the mic and the sound system, it looks very technical. Derek does some warm up mediumship with Agnes who seems a little perturbed by her face on the big screen but goes along for the ride anyway. Then disaster of disasters! Who'd have thought it but the sun started to shine in Glasgow and shone through the windows marring the view of the big screen. Derek was devastated and attempted to shout the Sun away. Oh dear. In steps cool-as-a-cucumber Agnes who rustles up some folks with a black screen, Agnes dims the sun. Now that is a talent! Have another chat with Derek who is bouncing off the walls as he gets "in to the zone", he can't chat properly now as he needs to maintain the Zone, can chat after the show (3.30pm)...ok. No wait, he has to do book signings, he'll chat after that (4ish) before he catches his flight. (Can you hear that music again?!). Oh dear, the Witch Hiker can't wait til then as baby Witch Hiker needs to be picked up. Why don't I wait for a bit of the show and we can chat on the phone on Thursday when he has finished his gigs in Ireland and before he jets off to the States. Ok then. Did I know he was doing the NBC show? Ah yes... The Show starts with a very loud song that Derek sings along to at the back of the hall until he decides it is too loud - oh dear watch out Tom. Then he strides up to the stage and starts his magic. He is a very entertaining Showman and the crowd seem to lap it up. Its sort of like watching Jimmy Carr do mediumship... I slip away after a little bit with a mental note to call on Thursday morning, when he'll be in Ireland don't ya know ;)
Sadly there were no more ring rings... Just the jolly sound of the Benny Hill theme tune running through my head. Ach well never mind. He seems like a nice man, though clearly very very busy. "Ooooh! Derek Ogilvie he's that bloke that can read babies minds!" I thought excitedley as I was given his phone number to call him up for a chat. Ring ring...Ring ring... I wonder if he'll be able to tell that I'm still in my PJ's... "Oh hello Derek, this is the Witch Hiker's Guide calling, we've been emailing about an interview?" and so it goes, we have a pleasant chat back and forth, he's a busy man, a gig in Glasgow tonight, several in Ireland next week and then off to the states for the NBC show. He makes a joke about a 6am phone interview, the kidder. Finally we agree to catch up on Saturday morning at the Glasgow Body & Soul Fair and I manage to secure a signed copy of his book for one lucky Witch Hiker to win - yay! How exciting I thought, I'd had a look at his website
