Five Top Tips to being healthy, peaceful and calm this year. PDF Print E-mail

Life seems to be getting ever busier with more and more pressure on individuals to perform and come up with the goodies. The pressure is on to run homes, run families, run business and be super efficient at work. Bills need to be paid and although inflation seems to be low, the price of the staples in life such as bread and milk and the fuel to heat houses is on the rise.

To help deal and cope with this present day scenario I am offering five useful tips to help individuals find a sense of peace, calmness and total relaxation in the midst of what can only be described at times as frenetic fear and anxiety.

Tip 1

Breathing

We all do it, we all take it for granted, our subconscious mind runs the system beautifully for us. By simply sitting down and closing your eyes and taking your awareness to it, it becomes the most powerful self-relaxing tool you possess. Take time out to sit and breathe, deeply, with eyes closed. Follow the breath as it enters your nostrils and travels down into your lungs. Allow all your muscles to relax, allow your major organs to relax and feel the warmth of well being envelop you. This only takes 5 minutes of your time however it will re-energise your body, lower your blood pressure and funnily enough make it seem as if you have loads more time in the day. Your mind will slow down, the inner commentator and critic will have had a rest also. You will also have brought yourself into the awareness of the present moment which means that you are not concerning yourself about the future or fretting about the past

Tip 2

Visualisation

Once you have cracked the conscious breathing routine you can embellish it by simply using your imagination. Keeping your eyes closed, take your self off to a sunny beach somewhere in your mind’s eye. Perhaps your favourite holiday location or a local beach you have walked on many times. Certainly it needs to be a place of pleasant memories and associations.

Notice everything that is going on there. Smell the sea air, feel the sand under your bare feet, hear the gulls and birds, feel the warmth of the sun on your face. Feel your whole body relax as you lie back on the sand allowing the sun to soak into your body. Enjoy. When you feel you have had enough of this bliss simply open your eyes and come back into the real world.

Tip 3

Meditation

Building on all the instructions we have laid down so far, to meditate, to totally rest and relax your mind, stop the constant thoughts from playing through, we simply need to take ourselves a little deeper into our subconscious mind.

You are lying on the beach, absorbing the beautiful warm rays of the sun, now you are going to get up and walk into a cave. At the back of the cave there is a doorway. Go through the door and down the 10 stairs there, go into a lovely garden right in front of you. Sit there for a while reflecting and contemplating, noticing the beauty of the garden. If your mind comes in with extraneous thoughts, thank them for being there and tell them you will get back to them later. Just like a phone call you don’t want to take at this moment. When you feel you have rested your mind enough come back up the stirs and gently come back to wherever you are and make sure that you feel grounded and not light headed. A long cool drink of water will help with this.

Tip 4

Sounding

When the body and mind cry out for balance one of the simplest ways of bringing peace and harmony to the situation is to make simple sounds. The body responds to the vibration created and intuitively you will always make the right sound necessary to restore your balance. Using the techniques above, focus on your breath and then visualise the base of your spine, breathe into it. Bring a tube from there to your throat and then focus on this tube (which might look like spaghetti or string ) down into your heart, then from your heart back to the base of your spine. In your mind’s eye you can see this bow shaped tube. Now you are going to make the sound of Aahh, very softly at first, by simply dropping your jaw and allowing the air to pass out of your mouth, you don’t need to sing or make an effort. This is all about effortless perfection. Make the sound of Aahh, Let it get stronger, keep your eyes closed and focus on stilling the mind, calming it down. Breathe deeply, right down into your lower belly and ease up if you feel light-headed. When you focus on calming yourself with Heartsound it works. 5 to 10 minutes of this everyday will harmonise your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Total bliss.

Tip 5

Self-Hypnosis

Using self hypnosis is a wonderful way to deal with old habits, (e.g. biting nails), patterns (why do I keep getting into debt or the same kind of relationship) and addictions (excess of alcohol, drugs or sex) and we all have some the most common being an addiction to sugar! The way to hypnotise yourself is simple however best taught initially by a fully qualified and registered Hypnotherapist who will guide you through the process until you feel ready to undertake this for yourself. 10 minutes of self-hypnosis can leave you feeling exhilarated as if you have had a wonderful night’s sleep.

In Conclusion

All of the above are simple yet very effective tools to help you stay calm and cool no matter what the situation. You need to take time and personal space to do the exercises above, i.e. somewhere where you will not be disturbed. You can also shut the world out by closing your eyes and doing the silent exercises on the bus or train on your way to work, definitely not in the car if you are driving!<

The ‘D’ word is present also, like most things it is not going to work unless you Do it and Do it often. Discipline. Make a date with yourself to do at least one of these exercises every day. On one day of the week go right through to meditation, you will really begin to notice huge changes in your life. Transformation is only a breath away

Fantastic. I teach meditation and relaxation classes. The article is common sense and yet when we are stressed common sense appears to go out the window as events get on top of us.
